Duncan Asper

My art is the distillation over 30 years in the creative side of the advertising industry as a freelance artist, art director, graphic and web designer. I’ve worked with a vast array of people, media and image building challenges. These experiences and challenges define my approach to my art.

Media is fuel for my design experiments on canvas with brushes, pallet knife modeling, acrylics, oils, polymers and metals. I also design and construct the framework of solid hard woods and metal accents

.
The thrust of each painting is to represent nature's most ancient and basic elements, and of humanity's interaction with the world we live in using those elements

As far back as I can remember I liked drawing and painting Creativity has always been important to me and I enjoy working with my hands.

Freelance Artist, Art Director, Graphic & Web Designer

Throughout my formal education I majored in fine art and commercial art. A native of So. California since 1955 I was raised in Pasadena. I moved to La Jolla in 1969 where I owned and operated an art and gift store. It was during those years that I traveled the world. I moved to Hawaii in 1979 and lived there through the 80’s, until I returned to California in 1991.

While in Hawaii, I released a series of original acrylic paintings on canvas and hand pulled, limited edition serigraphs. These images were exhibited in several one man shows in Honolulu including the Black Orchid the Honolulu Club, The Framery Art Gallery and other venues.

In 1992 I attended Platt College in Orange County, and received a degree in computer graphics and web design in 2000. I have worked in all phases of the commercial creative process, developing advertising and marketing tools for in-house marketing departments, design studios, individual clients and advertising agencies in Hawaii and California.

In 2002 I attended Mission Renaissance Fine Art Academy where I studied sketching, composition, color theory, and different techniques of representational painting with oils on canvas.

My commercial experience includes design and production of logos, brochures, multi page ads, web sites, newsletters, signage, identity packages, and catalogs. My computer of choice is Macintosh.
